Every pickle helps

We had a successful winter launch webinar for the Warm Welcome Campaign when we helped more than 200 people get their community spaces ready for the coming winter.

I was going to mention the cost of living which continues to be high; the fact that winter is coming and that means storms which have now become ‘back to back’ in an effort to really cut through the noise of geopolitical disaster. I was also going to mention the need for resilience (as we all know, we can’t control the weather, all we can hope to do is navigate the storms).

You can get your budget analysis elsewhere. I would be astounded if my headline wasn’t used last week somewhere in the media but, I promise you, I don’t use AI to write this or for much else besides transcription and the (very odd) bit of research.

This week I will be at a local university graduation ceremony, presenting a certificate to a lucky recipient on behalf of the Chartered Institute of PR. Later this month, I’m going to the CIPR’s annual conference where we’ll hear about, yep, resilience. And maybe some hope.

I’m certainly still peddling hope. Life is either long or short, depending on your point of view on any given day. As my grandma famously once said: “We don’t know how long we’ve got left, let’s just enjoy it.”

I imagine you saw that HSBC, Shell and BP are among the companies reporting soaring profits. So that’s all good. I personally would be quite happy if banks and energy companies paid more tax.

In branding news, Oxford Street clearly thinks it will be a nicer place to go now it is pedestrianised. If you don’t mind shopping for vapes, that is, or for sweets or for London-themed tat. Or, possibly, you may have sold a vital organ and can afford to shop in Selfridges.

I’m slightly better rested this month, but not much as you can tell from my tone. The recharging continues. The freezer has been successfully defrosted, by the way, and I discovered a bumper crop of frozen raspberries from the year before this year’s roasting summer. TTFN.
